12/26/04

Today we went to the sunday flea market. It was HUGE, we spent a couple of hours walking around and we didnt even come close to seeing it all. Sunday is also free museum day in Madrid so first we went to MNCARS(Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia) website: http://museoreinasofia.mcu.es/portada/portada_ING.php
It is a modern art museum. There was a lot of boring weird stuff there,(TÀPIES, TIERRAS) but there were several wonderful things as well. there was a lot of Picasso paintings that we both really enjoyed and Salvador Dali which was wonderful as well.
Then we went to the MUSEO NACIONAL DEL PRADO. website: http://museoprado.mcu.es/ihome.html
This was much more the painting style that Angie studied for art history. Renaissance style art. It was so big that we just started walking and didnt stop. It took about 2 and a half hours to get through, but by the time we were finished we were just exausted. Museums are really draining, but we saw a lot of famous works and it is always exciting to see somthing that you have seen in books in person.
On the way back we walked through another market, but it was more of a trendy fashon market and stuff was really marked up.
We went back to the hostel and had a meal(the first one of the day so you can imagine how growly we both were at each other) and then relaxed and talked with fellow travelers. It only takes a few days and the whole experence is different because of the different people coming in and out.
