12/1/04

Well despite yesterdays sinister events, and no matter what we decide to do, today we decided to see the sites and do our tourist duty. We saw the Colosseum-not as big as we thought it would be, Arch of Constantine, the Roman ruins aka the forum romanum(and we got a free tour there because of a tour promotion), from there we saw the monument to Vittorio Emanuele II- Piazza Venezia, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Castle Sant Angelo, the Piazza del Popolo, Piazza de Spagna, the Trevi Fountain, Trajans Column, and The Capitol. We really packed it in today. It isnt hard to do in Rome though because so many antiquities of note are packed into this city I dont believe you could ever see them all unless you lived here. And when we got home we had two plates of pasta that were included with our new hostel. The hostel we moved to this morning is 10 euro cheaper plus for the same price we got two nights. It comes with a breakfast(and from what I hear it has eggs, sausage, cereal, all you can eat and stuff. At the place we stayed last night it was just a prepackaged roll and a juice box. mmm yummy, not! On the way back to the hostel we saw this girl sqwat right on the sidewalk, drop trou and pee right there in pubic for all to see. Caleb and I were sorta shocked but no one else seemed to give a hoot. didnt even flinch. Viva la Roma I guess. It is ironic that we had our camera stolen in the most photographable city in the world, maybe next to Paris. So you are just going to have to take our word that Romes architecture and sites are absolutely beautiful. We are now going to try to write more to remind ourselves what we see as opposed to taking a photo. Rome is super dirty. There is trash everywhere and it sorta smells not so good. Not so surprising when there are people peeing on the street I guess. hehe
